Daniel Holmes was born in Lanceshire, England on March 27, 1819. He married Sarah Woolfenden in Bury, Lancashire, England on August 20, 1843. In 1847, he and Sarah came to the United States and settled in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (near Providence). In March of 1855, Daniel moved his whole family to California, after having made two prior trips west. He died on February 8, 1885, at Gold Flat, California.
